Choosing a Direction: Focusing on Child Independence

This week, we finally had our first full team meeting for the first time, when Dan "stopped by" in class on his way to the army :)
During class, we needed to choose one domain to focus our IoT project. We chose "child independence". We tried narrowing down the specific needs and problems related to this topic. We explored different aspects of independence, particularly the feelings of autonomy and capability that children experience. We asked ourselves: What kind of independence are we aiming to touch? Should we address the emotional needs of children, such as boosting their confidence, or should we focus on practical skills that enable them to handle everyday tasks more effectively? Should we focus on learning and evolving or the emotional connection with the parent?
To help us answer these questions, we were assigned homework to conduct interviews with end users. Our goal was to understand their daily routines, their needs, and where our project could provide the most value.
We interviewed several parents and their children, together and separately, to understand their experiences and identify the challenges both sides faced. We focused specifically on the afternoon routines at home, as this period often involves many opportunities for children to take on responsibilities, such as completing homework, helping with chores, or managing playtime independently.
By analyzing these routines, we aimed to identify specific areas where our solution could make a positive impact. These insights will guide our next steps as we refine our concept and define our solution more precisely.
