Designing with Empathy: Crafting a Real-Life User Scenario

This week, we placed our end user at the center of our efforts, creating a detailed scenario of a daily flow in which the user interacts with our product. This exercise was pivotal in helping us understand how our solution could integrate into the lives of children and their families, particularly when children are home alone.
From this task, we learned that the solution we envisioned has the potential to be a powerful tool for fostering intrinsic motivation in children. The system provides a structured framework with clear steps while incorporating freedom and positive reinforcement elements. Features like the color-coded light system generate a sense of achievement and persistence. For instance, the option for children to choose tasks tailored to their interests, combined with a supportive mechanism where parents can step in during moments of difficulty (via a red light signal), encourages emotional engagement and contributes to the child’s self-confidence.
At the same time, this is still an initial idea, and there is a lot of work ahead to refine the concept and determine the specific focus of the kit.
The process has underscored the importance of designing a product that balances structure, independence, and tailored support, ultimately creating a meaningful and enriching learning experience.
Moving forward, we will continue to fine-tune the idea and explore ways to make the product both practical and impactful for our target audience.
